Fig Preserves

Ingredients 2 teaspoons baking soda 5 cups fresh figs, stems removed 1 cup water 1 ½ cups white sugar 5 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 lemon, thinly sliced into rounds 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger ½ teaspoon ground cloves 1 pinch salt, or to taste (optional) 8 half-pint canning jars with lids and rings Directions Dissolve the baking soda in about 2 quarts of cool water, and immerse the figs in the treated water in a large bowl.

French Bread

Ingredients 2 cups warm water 1 tablespoon yeast 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 tablespoon sugar 2 teaspoons salt 5 to 5 1/2 cups bread flour Directions Dissolve yeast in warm water (110 degrees) and sugar in large bowl; allow yeast to proof or foam (about 10 minutes).

French Cheese Puffs

Ingredients 1/2 cup (125ml) water 3 tablespoons (40g) butter, salted or unsalted, cut into cubes 1/4 teaspoon salt big pinch of chile powder, or a few turns of freshly-ground black pepper 1/2 cup (70g) flour 2 large eggs 12 chives, finely-minced (or 1 to 2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme) 3/4 cup (about 3 ounces, 90g) grated cheese (See above for ideas) Directions You should have all the ingredients ready to go before you start.

Funky Chicken

Ingredients Sesame Noodles 1 lb spaghettini (get the thinnest spaghetti you can find) 1⁄2 cup soy sauce 1⁄4 cup sesame oil (some reviewers have said that 1/2 cup of oil is too much and have halved the amount, so use your own) 1⁄3 cup sugar 3 scallions, thinly sliced 1⁄4 cup sesame seeds (or more)

Garlicky Chicken Thighs With Scallion and Lime

Ingredients 1 ½ pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper 1 tablespoon canola oil 1 bunch scallions 1 head garlic, unpeeled and halved crosswise 2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely grated 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, plus 1 lime 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce Directions Season chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.

Granola

Ingredients 6 cups uncooked quick oats (or old fashioned rolled oats) 1/2 bup brown sugar 3/4 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup flaked or shredded coconut 1/3 cup sesame seed or sunflower seeds 1 cup chopped walnuts, pecans or chopped raisins (or dried cranberries) 1/2 cup salad oil 1/3 cup honey 1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla Directions Heat oats in shallow baking pan in oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Greek Potatoes

Ingredients 8 large potatoes, peeled, cut into large wedges (about 6-7 wedges per potato) 4 garlic cloves, minced (more garlic is a good thing, less garlic is a no-no for this recipe) 1/2 cup olive oil 1 cup water 1 tablespoon dried oregano (to taste) 1 large lemon, juiced sea salt fresh coarse ground black pepper Directions Preheat oven to 420°F A reviewer has suggested spraying the baking pan with Pam - that sounds like a great idea!

Green Bean Artichoke Casserole

Ingredients 3 (15.5 ounce) cans French cut green beans, drained 2 (14 ounce) cans artichoke hearts, drained 2 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs 8 ounces grated Parmesan cheese 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese 2 tablespoons garlic powder salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup olive oil Directions Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
