Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup semisweet or mint-flavored chocolate pieces (2oz)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • chocolate curls

Directions

  1. In a heavy medium saucepan combine chocolate pieces, sugar, and water.
  2. Cook over medium heat until melted
  3. In a mixing bowl beat yolks slightly.
  4. Gradually sir in hot chocolate mixture into beaten egg yolks.
  5. Return all to saucepan. cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thick and bubbly.
  6. Reduce heat. Cook and stir 2 minutes more
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Cool slightly, stirring occasionally.
  8. in another bowl beat egg whites and cream of tartar with an electric mixer until tips form.
  9. Gradually add the sugar until peaks form.
  10. Fold into chocolate mix.
  11. beat whiping cream, fold into chocolate mixture.
  12. spoon into 4 dessert bowls. Cover and chill for 6-24 hours.
  13. dollop each serving w/ additional whipped cream and add chocolate curls
